Tereza Joanne Boat, London Docklands Wedding Venue Photographer

When your wedding photographer just gets you

Noah and Georgie are honestly one of the sweetest couples! Ever since Georgie saw my work from a wedding I’d photographed for one of her friends, she knew she wanted me to capture their story too. Not only did she book me for their engagement shoot, but she also wanted me to photograph their wedding day. How lovely is that? It’s such an honour when someone connects with your work so much that they want you to be part of more than one important chapter of their lives. For me, that’s what wedding photography is all about. It’s not simply about turning up with a camera and taking photographs. It’s about connecting with people, understanding what they love about your style and creating photographs that genuinely reflect who they are. When a couple already knows and loves your work, there’s a real sense of trust, and that makes the whole experience even more special.

A unique London wedding venue with a story to tell

The Tereza Joanne Boat is such a unique wedding and events venue, and the best part for Noah and Georgie was that it was literally just around the corner from where they live in East London! I love it when couples choose somewhere that means something to them personally. Your wedding venue doesn’t have to be a grand country estate or a traditional hotel to feel special. Sometimes, the most meaningful places are right on your doorstep, somewhere familiar that becomes part of your own story. Not every couple wants a wedding that looks like everyone else’s. Perhaps you want somewhere with a little more personality. Somewhere your guests haven’t been to a dozen times before. Somewhere that feels like the beginning of your story, rather than a wedding pulled from a template. That’s exactly what makes the Tereza Joanne so appealing. Moored on the water in London’s Royal Docks, it’s a venue with character, history and a completely different feel from a conventional wedding setting.

Why London weddings are so wonderfully diverse

One of the things I love about photographing weddings in London is the sheer variety. London is a city of different cultures, communities, architecture and personalities, and its weddings reflect that beautifully. You might find yourself photographing an intimate registry office ceremony followed by cocktails in a favourite neighbourhood bar, a stylish city wedding surrounded by modern architecture, a traditional church ceremony, or a vibrant multicultural celebration bringing together families from different parts of the world. Some couples want a relaxed, informal day with minimal fuss. Others want a huge celebration full of colour, music, incredible food and dancing late into the evening. And some want a combination of everything, blending traditions with contemporary ideas to create something entirely their own. I think that’s one of the reasons London is such an exciting place to be a wedding photographer. There isn’t one particular look or formula that defines a London wedding. Every couple brings something different, and every location offers a new opportunity to create photographs with personality.

A boat wedding that’s anything but ordinary

The Tereza Joanne is a place where you can bring your favourite people together, celebrate your way and create a day that feels personal from beginning to end. Whether you’re planning an intimate celebration or a big, joyful gathering with family and friends, its flexible spaces offer room to make the day your own. With catering options and a welcoming, experienced family-run team, couples can create a celebration that reflects who they are and what matters to them. There’s also something special about being beside the water in East London. The Royal Docks have their own industrial heritage and distinctive atmosphere, offering a different side of the capital from the familiar streets of central London. For photography, I love venues that give me opportunities to explore. Interesting textures, changing light, different surroundings and unexpected little corners can all become part of the story. Rather than making every photograph feel staged, I enjoy using the environment creatively and allowing couples to relax into the experience. It’s about creating a collection of photographs that captures not just how the wedding looked, but how it felt to be there.

A fascinating history behind the Tereza Joanne

Originally built as a working crane barge in Eastern Europe shortly after the Second World War, the Tereza Joanne began a new chapter in London’s Royal Docks in 1997, when Marian and Mervyn Phillips transformed it into a unique floating venue. Named after their daughter, the boat evolved from its roots in watersports into a family-run venue for weddings, parties, events and celebrations. I love that history because it gives the venue something beyond its physical appearance. It isn’t simply a boat that happens to host weddings. It’s a place that has evolved over time, bringing people together for important moments in their lives. Today, couples can add their own chapter to that story, celebrating with family and friends in a setting that has genuine character and a past of its own. And for Noah and Georgie, there’s something particularly lovely about choosing a venue so close to home. London is where they live, the city is part of their everyday lives, and their wedding becomes another memory connected to a place that means something to them.

Natural wedding photography, full of life and personality

My approach to wedding photography is all about capturing the real moments alongside creative portraits that reflect each couple’s personality. I love vibrant colours, interesting compositions and photographs that feel natural rather than overly posed. Of course, there is a time and place for those important family photographs and a few beautiful portraits together. But some of my favourite images are often the moments in between: the laughter during a conversation, the way someone looks at their partner when they think nobody is watching, or the spontaneous moments that no one could have planned. For me, the best wedding photographs aren’t about recreating somebody else’s Pinterest board. They’re about noticing what makes your relationship different and documenting the people, emotions and atmosphere that make your day yours. When a couple has already connected with my work before their wedding, it’s especially rewarding to build on that trust and create something personal to them.

Planning a London wedding of your own?

If you’re planning a London wedding and looking for something a little different, the Tereza Joanne is a brilliant example of how your venue can reflect your personality rather than dictate how your day should look. Whether you’re dreaming of a relaxed boat wedding, a colourful multicultural celebration or an intimate gathering close to home, London offers so many possibilities for creating a day that feels authentic to you. If you love natural moments, vibrant colours, creative portraits and a documentary approach that lets you enjoy your wedding rather than spend the whole day posing for photographs, I’d love to hear about your plans. Because ultimately, your wedding isn’t about following a set of rules. It’s about bringing together the people you love, celebrating your story and creating memories you’ll want to revisit for years to come.

Noah and Georgie, thank you for trusting me to capture your story, from your engagement shoot to your wedding day. It’s couples like you who make what I do so special.
