Simon and Rachel married at St Andrews Church in Steyning and had their wedding reception at Wiston House in Sussex which has stunning grounds and interior and lots of space. Their colour scheme was Purple (Rachel's favourite colour) and had a vintage travel theme which was incorporated from the very start of the day through to the beautifully decorated reception room at Wiston House. The idea came from Simon and Rachel's time travelling to various countries and which is where they actually met.
Rachel tells their story:
"We met in September 2011 when Simon had taken a year out to travel and I had taken 8 weeks off to travel with a friend who was taking a career break. We both joined the same overland camping tour in Africa – starting in Zanzibar and going down to South Africa through 6 different countries in 7 weeks.
After the tour Simon went off to Australia to continue his travels but we couldn’t live without each other, so I went to join Simon in New Zealand and we came home together after that (Simon missed his trip to South America but hopefully we’ll get to do that together next year instead!)
I had just bought a flat in Hove and planned to live in it for at least six months before moving in with Simon in Bournemouth – I lasted two months....the first day we lived together, we went to look at the house we went on to buy.....
.....and the rest is history!"
The day started at Rachel's parents home in Steyning, where Rachel and her Bridesmaids had their hair and makeup done. Rachel's parents home was beautiful, with an amazing long stretch of garden which is overlooked by even more beautiful Sussex countryside. Rachel's mum worked very hard to make the garden even more special for Rachel by keeping up with the travel theme and making bunting from material with a map of the world printed on it which lead to an old shed and a perfect spot to put Rachel's 'Art Couture' dress and to photograph Rachel's shoes.
They had a lovely service at St Andrew's Church just down the road from Rachel's family home and then onto their Wiston House Wedding Reception. Wiston House is a beautiful 16th Century Grade 1 listed building in the South Downs in the Sussex countryside, surrounded by over 6000 acres of parkland with magnificent views and a stunning mile-long driveway through the park with sheep grazing around.
A lot of people helped Simon and Rachel make various parts of Wiston House even more beautiful continuing on the vintage and travel theme, including putting lots of shabby chic hearts under a beautiful stone trellis with lots of vines and greenery over it. A lovely touch was writing individual messages to each wedding guest on the reverse of their name tag by their seat. Another special touch and stand-out things I remembered from the day, was that every member of the bridal party who were on the top table, each had their own entrance into the reception room. The bridesmaids, mother of the bride, mother of the Groom, father of the bride, father of the groom and the best men and ushers.
It was such a great day and lots of well thought out plans to make the day special and look fantastic. Such an honour to be part of their big day. Thanks again guys!
