Nigel and Sarah met at the Tate Modern in London on November 16th 2012. E-harmony dating drew them together. To make their first meeting more enticing to her, Nigel cunningly became a member when he arrived! On greeting, the 15 minute late Sarah, he forgot to shake hands and an awkward beginning had commenced. Sarah observed how she wasn’t totally impressed in his sense of style. Of course there was nothing wrong with how she was dressed! (Sarah says.) He used the trump card "I am a Member here" and without hesitation they slowly made their way through the unusual modern pieces of artwork that triggered off relaxing and witty conversation. This time, the body language became more expressive and animated. Flirting into another date the very next day!
Prior to this beginning, emails occurred back and forth on the site, then texts then phone calls for hours on end. Endless chats about everything or simple chat that he later would say were just rubbish (but those are the best chats, Sarah says.)
That was the date always to be remembered. A special place for that anniversary and a favourite place for making other memories. Then on the same date, 4 years later, back at The Tate Modern, Sarah would never have expected a proposal. Nigel finally purchased the ring and kept it hidden in his jacket pocket all evening. They chatted, laughed, sipped champagne and still he would not take off the damn jacket. Nigel was not relaxed!
Eventually (and to the relief of Nigel), dinner in the Level 9 Restaurant was over and he took her for a wander around the 360 degree roof top. The sights of London were unbelievable. Beautiful, Majestic buildings artistically creating a shapely skyline. Tourists slightly in the way... but this in-love couple were enjoying the evening too much to care. A small alcove beckoned Nigel and he took their two glasses of delicious red Merlot and placed them carefully on the floor. On request, an Italian student photographer captured the next unforgettable moment. He snapped away as if a professional while Nigel interrupted Sarah’s chat to turn her around.
"Will you marry me?". A perfect photograph. Moonlight, the Chard and a newly teary fiancé, who had only continuously said "of course" and not "yes". While this was going on for an endless amount of time with hugs and kisses involved, Nigel kept hold of the ring in it’s special box and Sarah eventually politely asked for it. "Please can I have my ring?". Yet again. an awkward beginning but with a life long happy ending!
What an awesome story, and with exclusive access to the Tate, we took advantage of the beautiful art and architecture. I cannot wait to photograph these two and their guests at the beautiful Wiston House in Steyning, Sussex soon!
