Matthew and Hannah met in April 2014 after meeting and speaking on the dating app, Tinder. Their first date was at a cocktail bar in London - where they both lived - and the rest is history! Matthew proposed to Hannah in February 2018 on their holiday in South Africa. They were staying on Farm Sanctuary SA (home to the famous painting pig, Pigcasso!) and after a fabulous meal at a vineyard in Franschhoek, the pair were stargazing when Matt dropped down on one knee!
For their engagement shoot, Hannah immediately knew where is should be! Whilst their wedding will be in her home village of Wimborne St Giles in Dorset, they wanted their engagement shoot to reflect both a connection to them, and also the beautiful new wedding venue. They chose to have their engagement shoot with me at Piccadilly Circus in London, in the very early hours of a Sunday morning to try and capture the 'abandoned city at sunrise. In addition to them both living and meeting in London, Piccadilly Circus' connection to their wedding venue in St Giles goes back to the 19th century.
St Giles House is not only a wedding venue but also home to the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury; his ancestor, Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, was a well known Victorian politican and philanthopist. In memory of his work, the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain was erected at the end of Shaftesbury Avenue in Piccadilly Circus. More commonly (and mistakenly) known as Eros, the fountain is a tourist hot-spot in London - hence them wanting to wake up early on a Sunday and beat the tourists! Whilst the Fountain's angel - Anteros - points the direction of south west and to the village of St Giles, there is a casting at St Giles House that points directly back at Piccadilly Circus; thus making an amazing connection between wedding venue, Hannah's family home and their joint home of London.
We had an awesome time walking around Piccadilly Circus, Regent Street, Leicester square, Pall Mall, St James Park and the near by area, even though we had a 3:30am wake up call! I am so hapy with these and how up for this shoot Matt and Hannah were.
